Music has been a way of connecting since the dawn of time, but more than 70 million people have never been able to take part in this communication. Not because they don’t want to, but simply because they cant’; they’re deaf. World Federation of the Deaf are working on including them. Among other things they help deaf people getting Cochlear Implants: A hearing aid with a revolutionary technology finally making it possible for deaf people to hear almost as well as hearing people. This hearing aid is expensive - and there are few who can afford it. How can we engage the new generation to act for WFD’s cause? Our solution: The Silent Song WFD is initiating a collaboration with Spotify and Adele who is about to release a new single. This is how it works: Adele’s new single is launched in Spotify on the official International day of the deaf. Soundless. When you turn up the volume, you open a pop up window in Spotify. We meet Sarah. Sarah is an Adele-fan, and she’s deaf. She can feel the vibrations from the music - and she loves the lyrics. Each time the track is played soundless, the royalties go to financing Cochlear Implants. When enough people have heard the song soundless and the barometer reaches the top - the silence is broken. You can invite your friends on facebook to break the silence even faster. Finally when the barometer reaches the top Sarah’s Cochlear Implant is turned on. She can now hear Adele for the first time in her life - at the same time as you get to hear the song for the first time. All the reactions are recorded and gathered on a campaign website for those who missed out on the actual event. In the long run this could be an integrated function in spotify; a yearly happening on the day of the deaf. It all starts with lending an ear… THE SILENT SONG Donate silence - give someone else sound Target group: The young generation of Spotifyers.
